Tom was on board today for his third trip of the season, joining him was his friend Joel. We started off trolling and heading south, I was thinking Blackfin Tuna or Mahi, but the troll was very slow until we got below the Breakers when one of the rods started absolutely screaming. I thought we were in danger of getting spooled by this fish, but Joel eventually got things under control and started working the fish back to the boat. Doug the mate and I were really excited by our prospects until the fish finally came to the surface and we realized it was just a giant sized Bonita ! Back at the dock this fish weighed 19 pounds. We then went on the drift with live Goggle Eyes and frozen sardines, and started picking at fish. We landed 2 small Mahi, keeping one and releasing the other, an amberine, and a King Mackerel that weighed 27 pounds back at the dock ! The guys had a great time and when we compared notes with the other charter boats we realized it was a tough day fishing and we had done really well.
